It’s that time of the year again when we start to think about how we’ll be celebrating the festive season.
For Australians, that means planning an alfresco gathering and enjoying the great outdoors with friends and family. The thought of trying to get your garden/outdoor space spruced up can be daunting, so we’re rounding up our top tips to help you style your Christmas outdoor entertaining.
Colour Scheme and Table Setting
Pick a colour or tone and stick with it to create a coherent scheme. Pull your scheme together with your table setting by adding napery, bon bons, beautiful crockery and glassware. For background styling I suggest adding your colour with flowers or foliage. Keep it simple and let each element speak for itself. In doing this you will create an elegant yet relaxed style.
Lighting is essential for creating atmosphere and ambience. Try to avoid any direct over head pendants shining onto your dining area as this can create a very harsh feeling.
String lights or lanterns are a great alternative. With enough dotted around, you’ll be able to create an ambience that sees you through the party till after the sun goes down.
Decor
Hang baubles, string lights or lanterns on tree branches to bring Christmas outdoors. Votives on the table will add and extra flickering glow to add a sparkle of festivity. Fill empty spaces with pots. We like these pots from On The Side – the gold trim adds a festive tone.
With a bit of attention to your colour scheme, table settings, lighting and decor, you’ll be on your way to another great Aussie Christmas in no time.
